CHRISTIAN MISSION FOR PRISON MINISTRY HopeBridge Prison Ministry began in March, 2001 by Nina Novitskya. The purpose of the mission and ministry is threefold: 1) Spiritual Help 2) Legal Consulting 3) Material Help to inmates, people who are under court examination, their relatives and those who have been released from incarceration. In order to reach this purpose, HopeBridge is involved weekly in the following penitentiaries ; 1. Zhytomyr Reformatory No. 4 2. Prison No. 8 in the city of Zhytomyr 3. Reformatory No.66 in the city of Shostka 4. Women’s Reformatory No.39 in the city of Uman 5. Reformatory in the city of Berezan 6. Isolation Ward No.13 in the city of Kiev For the successful work in these penitentiaries, contacts have been established with the State Department of Ukraine on the enforcement of punishments. HopeBridge actively co-works with the International Committee of Human Rights and are also involved in key positions in the Department of Connections with Penitentiaries. Arrangements are being provided for HopeBridge to do the following; 1. Spiritual Help • Services and Concerts of Christian music hosted by ministers six times per month. • Letters correspondence of inmates and relatives • Organization of providing Bible video school classes. • Showing Christian videos and movies, including the Passion Christ. • Providing inmates with Christian literature 2. Legal Consulting Help • To those who are released from imprisonment • Drawing up necessary legal documents and passport and work permit book • Registration for permanent housing • Local employment centers registration • To help find a job • To help relatives of those who are under examination 3. Material Help • Provisions of clothing, food, and stationary goods. • Supplies for medical units in the prisons, (medicine, bed sheets, blankets, towels, etc.) • Supplies of hygiene care (tooth brushes/paste, soap, etc) electric bulbs. • Building materials (paint, plaster, concrete, sand, etc.) • Transportation of handi-capped relatives for visitation. • Help inmate relatives who are lonely or that have big families In the year 2004, HopeBridge’s money turn over was more then 15,000 US dollars. This included transportation expenses (gas, maintenance and repairs) for ministry van. Humanitarian Aid (clothes, shoes, bedding, stationary, hygiene, etc.) Postage expenses for letters. Food supplies for inmates and family members.
